A blend of organically farmed Zinfandel from Kromsky Vineyard (a three acre site in the Santa Clara Valley) and Pinot Noir from a new vineyard in the Madson portfolio, Sea Terrace. Perched above Watsonville, it rests on a terrace of ancient marine sandstone soils. At harvest, the fruit is pressed to extract limited color and phenolics. Fermentation occurs spontaneously and naturally. Bottled before fermented completely to dry, creating natural effervesence- the pet nat (or ancient) method. The juice doesn’t come out of the bottle, so there’s no fining, filtration, or sulphur additions- totally 0/0. 11.4% alcohol. 370 cases made. Fun, light and crushable, with surprising depth to its peach, guava, strawberry and cherry fruitiness, with soft bubbles, a dry finish and just a hint of pleasing fermentative funkiness. Expect some solids in the bottle.
