100% Moschato Spinas from two young vineyards on loam soils in Archanes. Only the free-run juice was vinified at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. 13.0% alcohol. 5.5g/L acidity. 3.25pH.
Super aromatic, with dry, flinty, floral jasmine and oregano notes alongside tropical fruits, honey and tangy grapefruit. Dry and explosive in the mouth, with a medium body, zingy acidity and similar flavors to the nose- a fun mix of underripe tropical fruit, lychee, passionfruit, citrus pith and fresh cut green herbs. Juicy and mouth watering.
Have this bright, aromatic and herbaceous wine with anything from Humboldt fog or soft goat’s milk cheese to bruschetta to fresh, herbal salads, farro salads, tempura vegetables, California rolls, salmon crudo, beef tartare… light bright and zesty is the way to go!
This winery is brand new to the United States, and there’s almost no information out there about them. They were founded by a local guy named Nikos Stathoglou and are located in the Archanes subregion of Crete, very close to Knossos and south of Heraklion. Moinoterra means “the land of Minos” (a king of ancient Knossos and Moinoan civilization). In 1949, an archaelogosit uncovered a Minoan farmhouse winery on the site that dates back to the 16th century BCE. That’s all I can find!
