100% Mourvèdre from two sites in the Santa Ynez Valley (76% Zaca Mesa Vineyard and 24% Santa Ynez Vineyard). 100% destemmed, aged in neutral barrel and puncheon for 22 months. No fining or filtration. 14.7% alcohol. Medium bodied, with an intoxicating aroma of raspberries, cranberries, mocha and cracked pepper. Rich and textured in the mouth, with salt and iron notes complementing the lush fruit. Tannins are nicely integrated into the mouthfeel, with little astringency. Fantastic food wine. Nicole Walsh is a Santa Cruz legend- she has worked with Randall Graham at Bonny Doon since 2001 and still manages the Popelouchum property, just outside of San Juan Bautista. This is her personal project, focused on coastal vineyards, unusual varietals and minimal cellar intervention.
