100% Nebbiolo, handpicked and fermented in stainless steel with ten days maceration. Aged simply in stainless steel. 14.5% alcohol.
This is a great casual Nebbiolo for everyday occasions- the wines from the Roero tend to be a little softer and fruitier than their more famous cousins from Barolo and Barbaresco. This has plenty of varietally correct notes of dried cherry, tobacco, earthy leather, cedar and bay leaf wrapped up in a round, medium bodied dry wine with tannins that are present but not harsh.
Cascina Pace lays in a natural amphitheater in Canale, a remote valley in the Roero surrounded by vineyards and hugged by beautifully rounded hills, with a small pebble road that leads only to their home and winery. Owners, winemakers and brothers Dino and Pietro Negro are the fourth generation of their family to farm this land, originally purchased in 1934 by their great-grandfather Bernardino. They took over in 1996 and were the first generation to bottle their own wine. Recently, the team of Dino and Pietro has been reinforced with the addition of Matteo, Pietro’s son. But Tiziana and Franca, Dino’s and Franco’s wives, are also part of the team, along with Maria, their mother. The estate now encompasses 55 acres of vines, planted to Nebbiolo, Barbera, Arneis and Favorita; and the winery produces about 7,000 cases per year.
