New wine from Sicilian natural wine phenom Nicolò Grippaldi! Equal parts Nero d’Avola and Nerello Mascalese, all biodynamically grown on vineyards planted in 2015 on Nicolò’s great-grandfather’s abandoned land in Gagliano Castelferrato, a small village 651 metres above sea level in the province of Enna. Native yeast ferments, minimal intervention in the cellar, bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulphur. Opens with a spicy, rich and enticing aroma, characterized by black fruits like blackberry and blackcurrant, mingled with spicy hints of black pepper and cloves. Accents of chocolate and a subtle vanilla add depth and complexity, enhancing the overall sensory experience. Decant to drink now or age for another 3-5 years.
93 points, James Suckling. "Very spicy wine, with restrained blackcurrant, cream, strawberry, and exotic spice aromas. The smoothness is supported by firm yet ripe tannins and refreshing acidity. A precise wine, balanced to the end. 50% nero d'avola and 50% nerello mascalese. From organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best in two or three years."
