Tasting Notes
Pecorino is the classic native white grape of Abruzzo- all but extinct in the 1970s, it has experienced a comeback in recent decades and this totally natural, hands-off expression is a great example. It has a fairly aromatic nose of ripe pear, dried apricots and tropical notes of mango, pineapple and papaya. The ripeness continues on the dry, medium-full bodied palate, which has Pecorino’s classic weight and slightly oily viscosity adding texture, which is more than amply balanced with high acidity. There’s lots of fruit on the palate but also noticeable floral notes and a hint of honey. Excellent!
About Lunaria
Lunaria was formed as a cooperative of 600 farmers in 1964, who all shared the same goal of conservation and a reverence for organic and biodynamic winemaking. This came in hand with the place - Majella National Park, one of the largest and most diverse parks in all of Italy. The farmers settled on this are to aid in their mission and have not looked back. Lunaria wines were launched several decades later and were meant to evoke the initial goals of these farmers in a fun and charming way. Production is now fully biodynamic whilst supplying a world market. Their focus is truly on a holistic approach in both vineyard and winery, with careful attention paid at each interval – from the inextricable link between pollinating bees & yeast, to the renewable material of wool, showcased in a delicate tie on each bottle made from sheep with whom they share the land.
