A stunning Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc, the 2022 Isabelle & Pierre Clement 'Clos de Treilles' Menetou-Salon delivers a beautifully refined and terroir-driven expression of this under-the-radar appellation.
In the glass, it presents a pale lemon hue with flecks of green, hinting at its freshness and youthful vibrancy. The nose is intensely aromatic, offering layers of citrus zest, green apple, and white peach, interwoven with delicate floral notes of acacia and elderflower. Subtle hints of wet stone, flint, and a touch of fresh-cut grass add depth and complexity, showcasing the limestone-rich soils of Menetou-Salon.
On the palate, this wine is crisp, precise, and elegant, with a lively acidity that keeps everything in perfect balance. The citrus and orchard fruit flavors carry through, joined by nuances of gooseberry and a subtle saline minerality. There’s a graceful tension between the fruit and the vibrant acidity, leading to a long, clean, and mouthwatering finish with whispers of crushed rock and lemon peel.
A sophisticated alternative to Sancerre, this Menetou-Salon exemplifies finesse, freshness, and purity of fruit.
The Clément family have been making wine in Menetou-Salon since 1560, making them one of the oldest family-owned producers in the region. Lying just 19 miles west of Sancerre, Menetou is a small appellation of 600 hectares that sits on the famed Kimmeridgian ridge, a unique limestone bedrock that is also found in Chablis, parts of Sancerre, and parts of Champagne.
