70% Colombard, 15% Gros-Manseng, 15% Ugni Blanc from 35+ year old vines. Fermented with native yeasts and aged simply in stainless steel tank.
Tasting Notes
These old vines yield an intensely aromatic wine with concentrated flavors. Exuberant aromas and flavors of melon and pure citrus meld seamlessly with herbaceous notes in this dry and vivacious white. A bit weightier than Sauvignon Blanc, but still super fresh and clean.
About Domaine Duffour
The rolling hills in the northern part of the Gers department are covered by sunflowers, corn, and plenty of vines for both Armagnac and excellent wine. Domaine Duffour resides in the small town of Lagraulet-du-Gers, and since the early 1980’s proprietor Michel Duffour has dedicated himself to producing quality red and white wines. Since taking over his father’s property, he has entirely replanted the vineyards with Gros Manseng, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tannat, having kept the old Colombard and Ugni Blanc vines. In addition to making wines, the estate is also revered for their Armagnac, a specialty of the region. Armagnac is distilled, but the base for it uses the same grapes that go into this wine, and Michel’s father planted most of these vines back in the 1960’s. Today the family owns 49 hectares of vines and Michel has passed the torch to his son Nicolas and works unofficially at the domaine. They work sustainably and, despite their higher permitted yields in an extremely fertile region, they follow very strict viticultural practices and a high degree of care and dedication goes into the winemaking.
