100% organic Pinot Noir from Toyon Vineyard on the Santa Cruz Mountains’ southwestern slope. Only 3 miles from the ocean at 480’ elevation, this vineyard is largely impacted by cool ocean wind and the marine layer that rolls in from the Monterey Bay. Fermented with 100% whole clusters and native yeasts only. 33% new French oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur. Taut and tight, this young wine shows off a bit of reduction and a definite savory, earthy edge. High acid and tannin (at least for Pinot). Age for another 5 years to show its best. 12.9% alcohol.
91 points, Wine Enthusiast. "This wine is still emerging from its bottling shell. However, the nose already excites with earthy aromas of tar, soil and rock, with damp wood and light red fruit in the background. Tightly woven, the palate is layered in cranberry and woodspice flavors."
