100% sustainable and estate grown Melon de Bourgogne. The ‘Clos de la Senaigerie’ is from vines grown within a walled site within the Côtes de Grandlieu sub-appellation of Muscadet (near Lake Grandlieu). No malolactic fermentation or barrel ageing. Aged 100% on lees with regular battonage for 8 to 14 months in thermo-regulated underground vats.
Classic, well priced Muscadet. Pours a pale lemon color and shows off a delicate nose of lemon, pear, minerals and sea salt spray with an undercurrent of creamy leesy richness. Light to medium bodied and bone dry, with high acidity and a textural richness belying the low alcohol here. Perfect wine for oysters or any other shellfish.
Luc and Jerome Choblet are the fourth and fifth generation (respectively) wine makers at their family estate, founded in 1864. The domaine is located in a magical triangle between the Atlantic Ocean, the Loire estuary and Lake GrandLieu. In the 15th century, the estate belonged to the Château de la Sénaigerie. The current tasting room, a former annex of the Château de la Sénaigerie, housed the old winery’s presses and cellars. The vineyards are certified Terra-Vitis and a new agro-forestry farm is under construction.
