100% certified sustainable Riesling. Further east and upstream of the Klosterlay is the Magdalenenkreuz, where Leitz farms vines 30+ years in age. The name translates to “the cross of Mary Magdalene,” named after a red sandstone cross that can be found amongst the vines. Here the soils are comprised of sandy loam—fatter and ideal for ripe expression; the riesling grown here is always textured, opulent and forward. Though the wine is of Spätlese quality it perceivably drinks more like a Kabinett. All stainless steel. 7.5% alcohol. 76.6 g/L residual sugar. This is pitch-perfect Riesling- it is noticeably sweet but not overwhelmingly so. It has an intensely aromatic nose of peach, apricot, honey, red apple, white flowers, honeysuckle, yuzu, pear and orange. Great balance between fruit sweetness and high acidity. Somehow both rich and crisp on the palate. Excellent food pairing wine. Drink over the next 15+ years!
