100% organic Moschofilero from vines planted to clay-rocky soils; 100 day of skin contact (“Ekato” means 100) before fermentation in terra cotta spheres with native yeasts; plenty of lees stirring; bottled without fining or filtering with minimal sulphur. 13.0% alcohol. As Yiannis Troupis says, “this is Moschofilero as our fathers and grandfathers remember it… it is our homage to the wines native to high plateau of Mantinia for millennia.” The pink-skinned, pink-fleshed Moschofilero grape takes on a ton of color from the extended maceration. Is it an orange wine or a chillable red? Who knows and who cares- it’s delicious! Super floral, with aromatic notes of rose petals, candied ginger, Amaro-like herbs, tart pomegranate and watermelon fruit, bright acidity and some serious tannin make this a superb food wine- think pizza, grilled octopus or fresh cheese.
