75% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre from from 50+ year old estate vines planted on red clay alluvial deposits with high scree content. Traditional concrete tanks are used for fermentation and aging, letting the intensely concentrated old vine fruit do all the talking. Low yields, hand harvested, hand sorted and fermented with native yeasts. This is the domaine’s top wine, made from their top lieu-dit. It’s a southern Rhône red that, were it labeled Châteauneuf-du-Pape, would command twice the price. Intense, complex and still quite youthful, this wine is teeming with dark and red berries, classic garrigue notes, lavender, licorice, spice and a touch of cocoa. Full bodied and well structured, but nicely balanced already between body, tannin and acidity. Decant for an hour or two to drink now or age for another 10 years.
