A mixed field blend from the old vines of the ‘Fonte de Santo’ vineyard, all farmed biodynamically. Hand harvested and fermented with native yeasts in neutral French oak barrels, and aged for 12 months in neutral French. 12.5% alcohol. 4,000 bottles made. Opens up with air to show perfumed notes of cherry, eucalpytus, earth, blackberry, cassis and cloves. Medium bodied and mouthfilling despite the low alcohol, with a great combination of earthiness and fruitiness. Finished bone dry, with grippy tannins and an extremely long, stone-laden finish. António Mendes Sr. has worked this family-owned farm of 60 acres since 1982 and his land has been under vines since the 1650s. The vineyards are filled with slabs of slate, plowed by horse, and tilled by wild pigs (Javali in Portuguese).
