100% organic Nero d’Avola. Grapes were harvested in mid-September, cryomacerated for for 24 hours to preserve freshness, followed by fermentation at 62° F/16° C for 10 days, and then simply aged for 8 months in concrete tanks.
Nero d’Avola is arguably the most important indigenous red grape from the island of Sicily. It grows well just about everywhere on the island, but is often over extracted and aged in oak. The goal of this Nero d’Avola was letting the delicious vinous quality of the grape shine through. Our vineyard is located at the base of Monte Bonifato at 350m above sea level with clay soils that are very poor in nutrients creating the perfect conditions for bright, fresh red wine.
Plump and juicy. Loads of red and black fruits, licrorice, tobacco and dried flowers. Its like Cab and Syrah had a love child. Some Neros can be big and bold, but this version is all about purity and freshness. An excellent alternative where you might use any medium bodied Italian red. Grilled meats, sausages, tomato based sauces, etc.
Due Terre Wines is a collaborative effort between friends - made from the indigenous grapes of Italy - certified organic, delicious, affordable, and well packaged. All the wines are produced as 100% pure varietals with minimal intervention and wine making in order to allow the characteristics of the grape to shine through. The winery was founded by Vito Lauria who revitalised his family’s old operation upon returning to Sicily from his studies and work experiences in Northern Italy. Due Terre is based on important, historic relationships that Vito has with small, family growers working organically around Mt. Bonifato. These are growers that have usually been practising organics for many, many years and who have genuine engagement with the vines and love for their land. Wines are all fermented on native yeast and guided in to the bottle with the aim of letting the quality of the fruit speak without the need for manipulation or heavy sulphite doses.
