This sustainably farmed, single vineyard, 100% Shiraz, is sourced from a 15 year old block of vines. The Grampians Mountain range is about two and a half hours west of Melbourne and runs almost 2000 miles up Australia’s east coast. This is an Aussie classic, made to be copiously drinkable. The fruit is destemmed and crushed into open top concrete fermenters, which are punched by hand. The wine is aged entirely in stainless steel and doesn’t see any oak.
Surprisingly elegant, fresh and medium bodied, it pours a deep violet red with a purple hue. Fresh blackberries and violets swathed in savory tones of black pepper, aniseed and dried herbs Inviting mid-weighted dark fruit flavors dance around the palate and continue with fine grained tannins and length.
Point Ormond is a private label project from Little Peacock Importers. The husband-wife team of Gordon Little (Aussie) and Lauren Peacock (American) source incredible value, sustainably farmed Australian wines from their producers and bring them to the US market. Point Ormind is everything that’s exciting about Australian wines today: delicious, high acid, not big on the alcohol, versatile, bursting with personality, sometimes quirky and always affordable. In a nutshell, these tasty wines hugely overdeliver for the price. The wines are an exploration of vineyard sites around Australia, with a slight bias toward the state of Victoria, undoubtedly Australia’s food and wine capital. Vines are grown with the utmost respect to the surrounding environment.
