95% Canaiolo and 5% Barsaglina, all organic, from the north coast of Tuscany. Terenzuola is a superstar producer, but this bottling rarely leaves the country. It is actually the first time that this wine has been imported into the US, thanks to our friends at Girasole Imports! Aged in fermented in large neutral oak barrels, this is named Merla after the particular clone of Canaiolo used.
Tasting Notes
Scents of black pepper, red brambly fruit and violets leads to a juicy palate with tobacco, plum, wild cherry and earth.Medium bodied and rustic, pair this with stews, charcuterie or sausage.
About Terenzuola
The Terenzuola estate is located in extreme northern part of coastal Tuscany, in the Colli di Luni DOC, which also overlaps the southeastern corner of Liguria. This small estate is planted predominantly to Vermentino, with smaller parcels of indigenous varieties like Merla, Vernaccia Nera and Pollera. The estate’s first bottling was in 1996. Today, the estate is run by Ivan Giuliani, who converted the family farm over to organic practices. He is very dedicated and talented.
